JOLED announces the breakthrough in the development of 12.2″ & 19.3″ OLED prototypes using printing technology
Mr. Tomoaki Tsuboka, head of business development at JOLED, presented the prototypes of 2 OLED panels having been created applying printing technologies. The 12.2″ FHD (180 PPI) panel and the 19.3″ 4K (230 PPI) are proving that JOLED is ready to hit the consumer market in 2018 with this new approach.
The USD 160 million investment of the company in a state-of-the-art R&D and production plant seems to have paid off. Production there will start in early 2018. Some consolidation in the market is happening. We have reported that Japan Displays (JDI) looks into buying JOLED after it failed to secure a deal with Sharp of its LCD division that in the end got to Foxconn. Rumours about a possible deal with Apple regarding the supply of display for next generation iPads have to be confirmed yet.
